Tricks for the 30 times table

Pick the trick that clicks for you. Each one is a different way to the same answer.

Use the 3s, add a zero

30 is 3 tens, so work out the 3s answer and write a zero on the end.

30 × 7 = 21 × 10 = 210

Double the 15s

30 is double 15, so work out the 15 times table answer and double it.

15 × 7 = 105, so 30 × 7 = 210

Use the table before

Know the 29 times table? Add one more lot: 30 × 7 is 29 × 7 plus 7.

203 + 7 = 210

Every answer is even

Every answer in the 30 times table is an even number, so it ends in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. An odd answer is always a mistake.

30, 60, 90, 120, 150

Turn it around

30 × 3 is the same as 3 × 30. If you know the 3 times table, you already know this fact, and the same goes for every table you have learned.

3 × 30 = 30 × 3 = 90

Count in 30s

Each answer is 30 more than the one before, so you can always count on from a fact you know.

30, 60, 90, 120, 150

Worked examples

How each answer is found, step by step.

30 × 6

Work out 3 × 6 = 18, then add a zero: 180.

30 × 6 = 18 × 10 = 180

7 × 30

The order does not matter: 7 × 30 is the same as 30 × 7. Work out 3 × 7 = 21, then add a zero: 210.

7 × 30 = 210

30 × 12

Work out 3 × 12 = 36, then add a zero: 360.

30 × 12 = 36 × 10 = 360

30 × 17

Work out 3 × 17 = 51, then add a zero: 510.

30 × 17 = 51 × 10 = 510

240 ÷ 30

Ask how many 30s make 240. You know 30 × 8 = 240, so the answer is 8.

240 ÷ 30 = 8

30 × ? = 420

Ask how many 30s make 420. Divide to find it: 420 ÷ 30 = 14.

30 × 14 = 420
