Why games help with times tables
Times tables stick through repetition, and repetition is easier when it is fun. A game gives every answer a reason: a balloon to pop, a block to stack, a card to match.
Games also add a little time pressure, which moves facts from "I can work it out" to "I just know it". That is exactly the speed you need for long multiplication, fractions and division later on.
