The pattern behind the list
Look at the last digit of each answer. From 22 × 1 to 22 × 10 it goes like this, and then the same pattern repeats every ten facts all the way up to 22 × 40:
- 2
- 4
- 6
- 8
- 0
- 2
- 4
- 6
- 8
- 0
Working out big facts
You do not need to learn all 40 facts by heart. Use the method for the 22 times table instead: Split 22 into 20 and 2: work out the 20s and the 2s, then add them.
Split 22 into 20 and 2. 20 × 40 = 800 and 2 × 40 = 80, so 22 × 40 = 800 + 80 = 880.
22 × 40 = 800 + 80 = 880
